Why You Should Throw Pot Control Out the Window

Posted on28. Feb, 2009 by Gugel.

Pot control is a good thing.  Unless of course, you go overboard.  Its a big leak for many, many low stakes and mid stakes regs.  In fact, its probably one of my biggest leaks!
Lets take a look at a hand I played recently.
Hero (Button) ($100)
SB ($101.50)
Preflop: Hero is Button with J♠, A♣
Hero bets $3, SB calls [...]

Heads Up Poker Bankroll Management

Posted on24. Feb, 2009 by Gugel.

Heads up poker has a quite a bit more variance than 6max or fullring.  In other words, when you run hot, youre really making bank, but you also get brutal downswings.  Take a look at my lifetime graph.
Ive had 2 really major downswings.  In a little over 100,000 hands, Ive had one downswing for 26 [...]

The villain bought in short which tells me off the bat that hes probably not a good player.  He calls out of position way too often (56% of the time) and is not raising enough from the button (only 31% of the time).  Hes pretty aggressive and likes to lead out on flops when hes [...]

Villain has been calling my 3bets very light.  I 3bet him 8 times and hes called 6 of them.  He folds to my continuation bets around half the time which is a bit loose considering Ive been cbetting rather conservatively.  He moderately aggressive on all streets.
Hero (SB) ($183.70)
Button ($238.20)
Preflop: Hero is SB with Js, Jh
Button raises [...]

Online poker coaching sites are all the rage these days.  The thing is though, for the players that would benefit the most from joining, theyre kinda expensive.  I read a blog post on Ed Millers blog (did he get paid to write that?) on how to get free membership to CardRunners and Stoxpoker and I [...]

Gugel (Button) ($207.50)
SB ($97.40)
Preflop: Hero is Button with 7d, 5s
Hero raises to $4, SB raises to $6, Hero calls $2
Flop: [...]

How Much Are You Paying in Rake?

Posted on02. Feb, 2009 by Gugel.

Did you ever actually calculate how much money you’re paying to FullTilt or Stars? It’s actually pretty surprising.
Here are the averages of how much I’ve paid on FullTilt HU tables:

$50NL: $0.040 per hand
$100NL: $0.049 per hand
$200NL: $0.056 per hand

It’s not much when you look at it, but it really starts to stack up when [...]
